“Not every sculpture needs a pedestal—some require only horizon.”

PROCESS

This experiment began in 2008 by using SketchUp’s freeform pencil tool to create a thin, continuous shape without right angles. I traced two random profile lines and extruded them from each side—top and bottom—leaving behind the ribbon-like form.

Top View of the ribbon shape.

Side view of the traced ribbon profile.

The shape allowed for interesting colors, and shadows when a horizon was added in.

These were alternate views exploring the shapes and sky colors.

This was a first rendering with SU Podium from around 2009 with my selected view.

I gradually explored distorting the geometry in the rendering more.
Here in 2025 is a new version with dramatic shadows, textures, and scenery.
